Due to COVID-19, many employers have plans to reduce hours for their employees or have plans to close business down completely for the short term. Even if employers do not have plans to shut down business, there is always the potential for a long-term shelter in place order requiring businesses to close. During this closure period, employers may not be sure how to handle employees and are unsure whether their employees may qualify for unemployment compensation during the shutdown.
In order to simply things, the Tennessee Department of Labor has created the following website for employers. https://www.tn.gov/workforce/covid-19/employers.html. If your business is shutting down temporarily, you can go to this website and complete the Employer-Filed Mass Claim form. It will allow for the employer to speed up the unemployment claims process for its employees so that its employees can begin receiving unemployment during the shutdown.
